Will you make your job easier this week?

If there’s an easier and faster way to do something and the cost and time is minimal to execute it – well, I’m all about that.   Here are some apps and thoughts about helping you and your team be more productive:

DO THIS:  Download what’s in your head into a task list rather than just trying to “relax and forget about it” (you probably won’t).  If you don’t write it down your brain will keep a small engine running in the back of your head.  Do a data dump before you leave the office or for vacation so everything you need to do when you come back is on a list.  Use the tools I’m about to mention to capture that information.

NozbeTRY THIS:  The application and website www.nozbe.com.  This app is amazing!  I was just introduced to it and am quickly finding it to be a dream come true when it comes to task and project management.  It sorts all your work by projects and tasks within those projects.  You can collaborate with your team members, vendors, or even customers so that you can keep track of who is assigned what and when each item is due.  It’s from the folks at GTD (Getting Things Done) who really know what they’re doing in the area of productivity.

TRY Nozbe WITH THISwww.evernote.com.  They can talk to each other.  I have mentioned this tool before so if you haven’t tried it I would definitely check it out.  This little app packs a whole lot of punch as far as helping you organize and find your project and work material.  You can scan or take a picture of your notes, organize them by files and tags so they are super easy to find later.  Even better is that the system can find words that you have handwritten – seriously?!  This is one of the most popular apps out their for executives.  Stop using your email and other antiquated systems to organize your digital files and give this a try.

DON’T DO THIS:  Stay plugged in when you NEED to be unplugged.  Create regular times during your time off to check your emails or return calls to the office if you need to.  Negotiate these times with your family so everyone is in agreement.  Let your office know when you will be checking in so you don’t have to play phone tag and carry your phone around for hours waiting for someone to call you back.  Your brain needs time away from your work in order to recharge and be innovative in ways to solve your biggest challenges.

HAVE THIS Fun on our nation’s holiday!  Celebrate our freedom and be grateful for the people in your life that do so much to support you as a leader.
