When the CEO of Google needs a coach I’m thinking we all do

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

I’ve used a coach for the last 5 years.  Not the same one.  Most I use for a year or more and focus on their speciality or the mountain I want to climb and when I reach the summit I take a breath and look for the next ridge and find a coach that will help me get there.  I’ve had the pleasure of working with some great ones like Kate Steinbacher, David DeHaven, Jean Pierre LaBlanc, Jeff Smith, and others.

Brian Duvall (one of my secret weapons in internet marketing) just shot me over a link to this video and I thought those of you that have ever thought, “I’m successful – what would I need with a coach” might want to watch it.  It’s only 41 seconds - you’ve got the time :)

Bob Childress explains small business success through the right staff

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

Bob Childress of Chick-Fil-A, Roanoke, continues his interview with me. I ask him what is the secret behind his success.

Noble. Really?

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

I like to think that my intentions are noble.  It makes me feel good to believe that I am the kind of person that wakes up everyday with a desire to enrich people’s lives and help others.  When I’m helping one or two people it seems natural and easy.  I skip along with this joy and lightness to my step.  It gets harder, though, as the people and projects multiply.  I don’t smile as much, I become more serious, I tend to hyper focus and forget the “people” behind the helping.  I become very caught up in the goals instead of the journey.  I quickly find myself not liking me at those times.

I really love the people I get to work with right now… the people that are part of the “mission” that Synergy has become.  The people at Wheeler Broadcasting, some of which have sacrificed a great deal to be part of the changes that are happening.  They not only have had to give alot of themselves and their time, but also believe in the future of what groups of passionate small business owners can create.  It’s not easy to support projects that have no clear definition or proven results.  Many times you’re going in “blind” with only hope that your gut is directing you to a successful result.

Then there’s the business owners that I am privileged to serve.  Their hearts are much taller and wider than they are.  When I see each one I see this light that comes from them and fills the room.  They work so hard and many of them for very little reward.  They sacrifice a great deal to run their companies and take care of their employees.  They care about their customers and disregard their need for sleep, or sick time, or vacation, or a decent retirement fund.

Then I see my husband and daughter who never, ever, get tired of wanting to have a relationship with me.  This, of course, is the most surprising and startling thing of all because, honestly, I would get rid of me.  I’m driven, focused, passionate, and about 80% of the time a total disaster.  My daughter’s boyfriend commented that I was sort of moody.  I actually thought that was very kind of him as I could have thought of many more words to describe the roller coaster ride he had witnessed that night.  I’m surprised, when I get home sometimes, that their cars are still in the driveway.  I owe them more.  Much more.

It is when I think about and look at the people around me that I am filled with this incredible sense of gratitude and know, at that moment, that nothing I could ever do would be noble enough for them, so I must keep going, and trying, and never give up on growing and learning. And, hey, maybe that would be the most noble thing I could do.

Synergy Sessions new website is up!

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

Finally… I’ve learned how to create a blog!  It’s taken months of instruction from Fredy (our on-site guru for this sort of thing) and our collaborative guru, Brian Duvall.  With their patience and tutoring, we now have the new Synergy Session website up and running.  The reps that have worked so hard to help pull all the groups together have been angels and patient as well.  No – it’s not perfect yet as Fredy has to come back from paternity leave and make it even better and more beautiful, but now Synergy Session participants have a home they can go to and find out:

  • What sessions are upcoming for the month and year
  • Who leads which group meetings
  • Post recommendations for other Synergy Session participants
  • Submit events with discounts and savings for Synergy Session participants
  • Learn about ways small business owners can save time and money

If you are a Synergy Session participant and haven’t submitted your picture, website address, short description of your business, and contact information, please do so in January.  We want to post all participant information so collaborations can be made easier among your groups and other Synergy groups!

WHOO HOO!!!  The Synergy Nation (as Bob Brudzinski calls it) is coming of age and rockin’ and rollin’. Thanks to all that are part of it, all that have helped with and God for giving me the ability to not fall apart while building it.

WordPress and it’s three heads

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

How to use WordPress.org.  YES!  There are three different types of WordPress’.  I know… who knew?  If you just want to fool around with a personal blog, just go to WordPress.com and set up a quick blog and get started, but if you have a domain name you want to use like I did, www.lyndamcnuttfoster.com, then I had to set that puppy up by going to www.wordpress.org.  Actually, I bypassed that all together and went to www.hostgator.com and bought this super cheap website hosting accounting and had that site upload WordPress for me… much easier!

This stuff will drive you completely nuts if you have an entreprenuer mind like mine.  It’s taken me months to learn enough to even know this much.  I’ll keep passing along knowledge as I get it because small business owners really need to be learning about this WordPress hysteria that’s going on.  Everyone is all distracted by Facebook and the truth is that the business applications for a blog in WordPress will grow businesses much faster.

A huge THANK YOU to one of our Synergy Session leaders, Brian Duvall, for all his help answering all of my questions.
